St Edmund’s Church Organ Awarded Grade II Listed Status by BIOS

The British Institute of Organ Studies (BIOS) has awarded St Edmund’s Church organ a Grade II listed status. BIOS stated that the organ has been included in the listing under its Historic Organ Listing scheme. This recognition is due to the organ being an early example of Thomas Hill’s work, dating from 1873, and remaining substantially intact tonally while retaining the original divided layout of its casework and mechanisms.

Consequently, BIOS has deemed it an important historic organ, significant to the national heritage of Great Britain, and has emphasised the need for its careful preservation for future generations.
